Love Is All Around

September 20, 2024
“Sitting in a cafe I love by myself seemingly surrounded by love. All music, at least the kind I like, tends to be about it. The books I read are about it. All of life is about it. It seems to be the only thing that is truly real, yet indescribable. It rips people apart only because they were so glued together by it. Love is passion and the thing we all look out for in life, the single emotion that results in every other emotion ever! If one feels down, it's usually a loss for love. And my days are influenced by the things I love, and trying to find more of it. The people in your life that are closed are called loved ones. Love heals, and it hurts; it embraces and releases. A driving force. And there is love everywhere you look if your heart is open. To Love Is Earth's Greatest Gift...”
In the spirit of this love filled time of year, I find myself reflecting on a journal entry from when I was solo traveling in Lithuania. I remember sitting in a new cafe that I enjoyed so much, realizing that, somehow, they were playing all my favorite songs, one after another. As I was going through a subtle “what am I doing with my life?” moment, I was reminded of who I am through all my favorite sounds. It felt like the Universe was speaking directly to me through music, a quiet confirmation that I was exactly where I was meant to be.
As I listened more closely, I noticed a common thread woven through every lyric – love.
A love lost, a newfound love, a love for a place, a feeling of love. It was as if the entire world was gently reminding me that love is always present, always shaping our experiences, and the basis of our life is supposed to be about love.
About connection, about the simple joys we often overlook.
The way the sun paints the sky at dusk. The sound of a friend’s uncontrollable laughter. The warmth of a hug that lingers just a second longer. It’s in the way the trees sway with the wind, how the ocean moves in perfect rhythm, how sore your stomach gets from laughing too hard, how quiet the world seems after snowfall. It is closing your eyes and losing yourself to music, and it is the silent moments with yourself. It is handwritten notes, and how it feels when someone remembers the smallest detail about you. Love is the excitement of an airport arrival gate, the bittersweet ache of a goodbye.
It’s the feeling of belonging, of being truly seen, of knowing you are never alone in this vast, beautiful world. And when we see the world this way, when we strip back the layers of expectation, of ego, of distraction, we realize that love isn’t just something we give or receive, but the very fabric of existence itself.
